How to Add Page Numbers, Reorder and Delete Pages in a PDF
Fix a messy PDF: remove pages you do not need, put the rest in the right order and number them clearly.
Why page numbers help
Numbered pages make long documents easier to read, reference and discuss, especially in reports and assignments where an examiner may refer to a page.
Delete first
Remove blank pages, duplicates and pages you do not want. Doing this first means the page count and the final numbering are correct.
Then reorder
Move pages into their final order. Use thumbnails to check that each page is upright and in sequence, and rotate any sideways pages before you continue.
Add page numbers last
Add numbers once the order is final, otherwise they will be out of sequence. Choose a position that does not cover content, such as the bottom centre or bottom right.
Check the result
Scroll through the file once. If your cover page should not be numbered, check whether the tool lets you start numbering from a later page, or number the main document before adding the cover.
